ACTIVE, BEAUTIFUL, CLEAN
In the world of civil and environmental engineering, an important aspect would be the environmental considerations of a particular design.
Here, we specifically came up with a way to beautify and apply the Active, Beautiful, Clean (ABC) approach.
The area between the Finance buildings of Singapore Polytechnic and the Colors study buildings have been converted from a dry grass patch to incorporate a bio-retention basin capable of treating storm water runoff while allowing the area to be used for recreation during periods of low rainfall, similar to various areas of Bishan Park.
WATER TREATMENT KIT
To introduce ourselves to the basics of water treatment systems, we were tasked to create our own portable water treatment kit for usage among small communities.
The process involved studying various equipment such as ultrafilters and pumps, as well as understanding the framework of a typical treatment system.
The final product is as shown, with a water tank, micro and ultra filters, a pump and an ultraviolet disinfection system.
FINAL YEAR PROJECT
'Removal of 4-Nitrophenol through Zinc Oxide Coated Ceramic Membrane'
Nitroaromatic compounds are a form of pollutants in water which threaten general health when consumed. This research-based project aims to reduce nitroaromatic compounds by using a ceramic membrane coated with zinc oxide, which acts as a catalyst. The process is done in ultraviolet light.
The research paper has garnered significant results which shows the reduction of these compounds.
